NOTES

ALLERGIES.

Some animals may be allergic to some of the ingredients in these recipes. If your dog has not been exposed to any of the ingredients listed, we recommend that you pick a recipe that has very few ingredients. Give your dog half the treat and wait an hour or two. If you notice increased scratching, vomiting, diarrhea, swelling or any unusual behavior, please contact your veterinarian or emergency animal facility immediately. If you see no unusual reaction, increase the amount of the treat you originally gave your dog. Again, wait an hour or two to observe. If you see no unusual reaction, give your dog a larger piece of the treat!

TREATS, NOT MEALS.

These recipes are meant to be consumed as treats for your dog. They contain no preservatives, artificial coloring, flavorings, fillers or chemicals. They are not intended as a complete meal.

INGREDIENTS.

When purchasing ingredients, choose the best quality you can find and afford. Both organic and non-organic ingredients are fine, so you can use whichever you prefer.

Any type of flour can be used in these recipes, especially if your dog has a wheat allergy. If you choose to use white flour, we recommend buying unbleached white flour.

When deciding what cheese to use, the choice is yours. In these recipes, we recommend low-fat cheese.

When choosing what peanut butter to use, purchase only all-natural, unsalted peanut butter with NO SUGAR added.

STORAGE.

These recipes do not have preservatives to extend shelf life, so they need to be stored accordingly. We recommend storing in an airtight plastic container in a cool, dry place. You may also refrigerate, if preferred, especially treats that contain cheese or meat. The estimated shelf life of most of the dry/crunchy treats is approximately two to three weeks and one to two weeks for muffins, cakes and soft/chewy treats.

Apple Cider Vinegar for Dogs

You can't go wrong with giving your dog apple cider vinegar - inside or out! The easiest way to introduce it to your dog's regular diet is by adding a small amount to your dog's water bowl. As your dog becomes used to the taste, increase the amount gradually until you are adding about a teaspoon a day. Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) is good for arthritis, allergies, dry or itchy skin, correcting pH levels, eliminating tear stains around the eyes, fighting fleas and other pests, and others! *Note: always discuss with your dog's veterinarian before making any changes to your dog's diet*

Sugars for Dogs

Foods containing processed sugars are an absolute no-no for dogs. Natural sugars such as maple syrup and honey can be consumed in moderation. You should still limit serving sizes ro protect your dog's overall health. If you or your vet have concerns about your dog's sugar consumption, you can leave the "sugars" out and/or replace with an alternative, such as a mashed ripe banana.

*XYLITOL* (also known as birch sugar) is a sugar substitute used in many human foods, from sugar-free gums and candy to baked goods. It is extremely TOXIC to dogs. Ensure that any products containing xylitol are always safely out of reach of your dog. For foods such as peanut butter, always check the label to make sure they contain no xylitol.
